Приём по случаю Дня России

11 июня 2013 в Посольстве состоялся приём, посвященный празднованию Дня России. В мероприятии приняли участие свыше 500 гостей, включая руководителей Администрации Президента РК, Министерства иностранных дел и других правительственных ведомств Республики Корея, представителей дипломатического корпуса, политических, научных и деловых кругов.

Ladies and Gentlemen!
I am glad to welcome You at the reception on the occasion of the Day of Russia.

Through the last years the Russian Federation have reached great positive changes in all spheres – policy, trade, welfare, science and technology. Our economy is developing dynamically, despite of the consequences of the world financial crisis. The Government has succeeded in taking an extensive range of measures in the field of social security, which resulted in stable situation inside the country and population’s upsurge.

From the other hand, Russia is consequently strengthening its positions on international arena. Last year the Russian city of Vladivostok became the venue of APEC Summit. In summer 2013 the next Universiade is planned to be held in Kazan and in September the Russian Saint-Petersburgh will receive global leaders for G-20 Summit. And besides, in the year of 2014 the Russian Federation will become the capital of Winter Olympics, which will take place in our southern city of Sochi.

The foreign policy of Russia is based on the principle of building friendly and mutually beneficial relations with all the countries, and especially, with our close neighbors. In this regard, partnership with the Republic of Korea is of special value for my country. By geography and history Russians and Koreans are predestined to jointly settle many common issues. I am glad to note that there is practically no field of activities, in which our two States do not interact. We cooperate in the sphere of international security, trade and economy, science, energy and culture. In addition to cooperation on land and sea, collaboration in space has showed great success. In January 2013 the first Korean rocket “Naro” was launched into space, opening new prospective for the Russian-Korean partnership in the field of high technologies.

It’s a great pleasure for me to note, that the new Korean leadership and, especially, the President of the Republic of Korea, Park Geun-hye, is interested in developing of friendly partnership relations with the Russian Federation on the basis of trust, mutual respect and understanding. Moreover, the leader of the Republic of Korea has always stressed the importance of strengthening our bilateral cooperation not only in politics, trade or economy, but between civil societies as well. H.E. Ms. Park Geun-hye has also underlined the constructive role of Russia in settlement of the most important problems of the KoreanPeninsula.

I am confident that the forthcoming meeting between the Presidents of our two States, which is planned for September 2013 within the framework of G-20 Summit in Saint-Petersburgh, will add a new impetus to the Russian-Korean strategic partnership.

Please, let me propose a toast:

To the Russian-Korean friendship, cooperation and mutual trust!

To peace and prosperity of the peoples of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Korean Government and the people of Korea, I congratulate the people of Russia as you celebrate the Day of Russia. It is a great privilege for me to be with you this evening to honor Russia’s rich history and culture.

The Day of Russia marks the great transition and progress made by the people of Russia. The remarkable transition that took place in the early 1990’s opened a new chapter in the Russian history. The extraordinary progress witnessed in Russia since then could not have been possible if not for the depth, strength, and compassion of “dusha,” that are so much the characteristics of its people. Today, Russia is a major pillar in the community of nations, democratic and prosperous, with vast potential still waiting to be tapped.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me take this opportunity to make brief remarks on the Korea-Russia relationship, especially the progress we made together over the years.

The relationship between our two peoples began on the plains of Russian Far East 150 years ago. As groups of Korean peasants emigrated to North in search of arable land, the Russian government welcomed them. Those brave Koreans became the pioneers of the Russian Far East and Siberia, calling themselves “koreytsy”(카레이쯔이) in the language of their adopted home. This region also became an important stage for brave Korean patriots, as they fought to regain the independence of their lost country in the early 20^th century.

Our relationship came to a halt with the dawn of the Cold War. The ideological divide froze almost all aspects of bilateral exchanges. However, along with the fall of the Berlin Wall, Korea began to pursue “Nordpolitik” – paving the way to normalize relationship between Seoul and Moscow in 1990.

Over the past two decades, Korea and Russia have successfully built a strategic cooperative partnership. During this period, leaders of our two countries held 24 summit meetings. Trade volume between our two countries increased by 116 times.

Today, our bilateral relationship encompasses political, economic, social, cultural, and scientific areas. We work together in UN and other international fora to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, to stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and to combat terrorism, piracy, crime in the cyberspace, and the spread of illicit drugs. We work together as members of WTO, APEC, and G20 to maintain stable international economic order. We work together in areas of aerospace and Arctic development to expand the horizon of humanity.

This is the path we traveled together so far, and we have much more future to journey together.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In Korea, President Park Geun-hye took office in February as the first female president in the history of Korea, as well as in Northeast Asia. Through her inaugural speech, PresidentPark presented her vision to build a mechanism of peace and cooperation in Northeast Asia. We believe that this vision is a good match with President Putin’s “Looking East” policy that places high emphasis on the importance of the Asia-Pacific region.

Like the Russian saying “도브라예 브랏스뜨바 다로줴 바갓스뜨바” meaning “a good fellowship is more valuable than a jewel”, the true value of the partnership between Korea and Russia is far greater than our trade statistics. Together, we can aim to open a new era of peace and prosperity for all peoples of Korea and Russia. Our strong friendship can be the foundation on which the lasting peace can be built in this part of the world. The best and the brightest minds of our two countries will expand the horizon for all humanity and create for all of us a better and a brighter future.

In celebration of the Day of Russia, let me suggest a toast to the good health and happiness of all of us here tonight, to the prosperous future of Russia and to an everlasting friendship between Korea and Russia.
