Entered the diplomatic service in 1980. Worked at the Embassies of the USSR and the Russian Federation to the DPRK and to the Republic of Korea.

2000-2004, 2006-2011 – Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea, Minister-Counsellor
2004-2006 – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Deputy Director of the First Asian Department, Deputy Head of the Russian Delegation at the Six-Party talks on the Nuclear Problem of the Korean Peninsula.
2011-2012 – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Ambassador at Large.
В 2012-2014 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
On December, 26, 2014, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea.
Married with a daughter.
Ambassador Timonin is the author of a number of books and articles, covering the issues of providing for peace and security, the development of multilateral economic cooperation at the Korean Peninsula and in the North-East Asia.
